Chairman’s Address
CHAIRMANS ADDRESS.
Welcome to St Peters RFC – A thriving successful family club for the many and not just for the few.
Our First XV had the Season of Seasons in 2018/19, running our Division 2 East Central Champions for the first time ever.
The Journey began away at the very much fancied Cilfynydd RFC on 01/09/18, who were unlucky not to get promoted the previous season finishing a close third. The game was (as expected) a tough encounter! ‘The Rocks’ showed what they would show for the rest of the season, great steal and determination and ran out winners 10-35, could we dare to believe!
Bagsy Barmy Army then went on a 10-league match winning streak (who needs cups)! Despite a few bleeps during the season St Peter’s were crowned Champions on 20/04/19 and the celebration ensued.
Our Second XV (who were not wishing to be out done) also had a very successful season, winning the Cardiff & District Premiership title on the last game of the season. Which was home to arch-rivals Llanishen RFC who they had met in the last 2 Cup finals.
Not only a Second XV this season, we also had a Vets team called the St Peter’s Krusaders! We entertained several teams last year and are looking for more fixtures all the time. We might not have won all the fixtures but we never lose a ‘Boat Race’.
As mentioned, ‘We are a family club’ so our Youth, Juniors and Mini’s continuing to be our backbone. The Youth narrowly missed out on wining the BA Blues league by 0.3 of a point and finished up runners up in the Cardiff & District Club. The Junior teams continue to thrive and have several players playing representative rugby along with their club commitments. One particular age group The Rocks under 14’s ran out winners of the Blues Cup for the first time, after losing in the Semi-final for the last 3 years against the same team – Well Done! The Minis who are the gateway to St Peter’s RFC continue to grow and entertained several international teams in 2018/19. Most if not all teams have a waiting list, making it the largest Mini section in Wales.
It was a season of firsts for everybody in 2018/19 and we very much look forward to try and emulate what has gone before. Whether we do or don’t, there will always be a warm welcome to everybody who is part or visits our community club. I very much look forward to meeting as many of you as I can during 2019/20 and look forward to the season ahead for all teams.
A Club for the many and not just the few.
