St. Peter’s RFC is now almost 140 years old, being founded in 1886. The Club began as the Parish Club of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Roath, Cardiff and retains its links to this day. History.
The full history of the club can be found in the History pages of the club in a book written by former Club Secretary Des Childs, however, the more recent history contained in this website is a collection of newspaper clipping provided by Beryl and Mike McCarthy, Stuart Love and a few other contributors.
The website was started as a personal and private interest in web design, and all things green and black, by Peter O’Brien a former player who played for the Rocks from Mini Section (now known as the Juniors) in the 1970s until his rugby retirement in the 1990’s. Peter played on the wing and is remembered for his ridiculous pre-match jokes (ask Steve Saleh or Peter Sutton) and his hard tackling on the pitch.
Peter also played baseball for St. Peter’s RFC baseball section. He was a founder member of St. Peter’s Bowls Club and continued to play as one of the youngest in the team.
Peter continued to help with the website design and content until his passing in November 2015.
The Website in its current form was taken over by Kevin O’Brien in 2005 and has continued to grow during this period. The site comprises of two major sections namely; WRU Pages and the Community Pages with a variety of contributors adding variety and flavour to the history of our club. There are currently over 500 pages of news, information and history contained within these walls.
The site was completely rewritten at the latter end of 2016 thanks to the complete failure of the hosting company ‘Fasthosts’ to suitably take care of the database of St. Peter’s Rugby Club. Since September 2016 the site has been hosted by RCT Hosting based in Pontypridd. The contributors of the site owe their thanks to Paul Creedy of RCT Hosting for his technical assistance.
