Youth Match Reports 2013-14

Sat 14th Sept Cowbridge(A) League – Lost 36 – 17

The Development Team started their league campaign with a loss away at Cowbridge. The home side started the brighter getting some of their big runners going and it was no surprise when they scored a try from long range. However, after about 10 mins St Peter’s managed to hit back with a well taken try by Jack Pattison after some pressure close to the line, this was converted by Alex Lloyd. Once again Cowbridge showed some good handling and running skills to regain the lead with a 2nd try which was converted this time to make the score 12 – 7. Lloyd then closed the gap to 12 – 10 with a well struck penalty. Cowbridge increased the lead back to 7 points when they scored a try with a drive from 20 metres from a lineout. After more Cowbridge pressure Lloyd managed to intercept and run 80 metres to level the scores at 17 all. The Rocks actually had a bit of pressure after this score but failed to turn it into any further scores and although the score stayed level until 15 minutes into the 2nd half Cowbridge always looked more likely to break the deadlock. They managed to score 3 more tries towards the end of the game and ran out deserved winners. Players to impress for the Rocks were Kyron Dymott, who carried on his good form from last week, Conor Lloyd, who carried strongly and Zac Pryor, who won good ball at the lineout. Alex Lloyd and Luke Thomas impressed in the back line, with Jack Pattison also showing some good moments. However, man of the match this week must go to flanker Ryan Farrah who was outstanding as usual in everything he did.

Sat 7th Sept Rumney(H) Friendly – Lost 50 – 0

The Development Side managed to pick up this fixture at very late notice and, although it proved a bit of a mismatch in the end, it meant that St Peter’s managed to put out two Youth Teams on the same day. A bright start by the Rocks during the first 15 minutes saw Kyron Dymott taking the game to Rumney with some excellent running. Some good commitment in defence held the visitors at bay until a turnover close to the line led to the first converted try for the visitors. A penalty soon afterwards made the score 10 – 0 and it stayed this way until the stroke of half time when after a sustained period of pressure another converted try was conceded. The second half proved a long affair for the young Rocks as Rumney used their greater size and maturity to score 5 more tries. Tremendous spirit was shown throughout from this largely u17s side and it was great to see them attacking at the end still looking for a try. Special mention must be made of Aaron Chiplin at prop, a well balanced back row of Joe Sweeney, Alex Perry and Conor Lloyd, and Gavin Joseph at Centre who all tried in attack and defence for the whole game. However, the St Peter’s MOM must be Dymott for his dynamic running and powerful tackling.
