Why Pay Your Fees..

These are the reasons why we insist on Club membership and some examples of how your fees are spent (the list is not exhaustive):

  • Your Club was established in 1886.
  • Membership fees are integral to maintaining the fine traditions and exceptional facilities that make up your Club.
  • Paying your membership makes you a ‘member’ and shareholder (1 share) of St. Peter’s Rugby Football Club Limited.
  • Members have voting rights at the Club’s AGM.
  • Our members can play, watch, coach and/or referee – enjoying rugby at all levels.
  • Members benefit from qualified coaches and referees who share their knowledge freely.
  • If you want to become a coach, referee or first-aider your qualifications are paid for.
  • The Club pays WRU referee’s expenses so that we can play and enjoy our rugby.
  • Entry to various festivals and competitions.
  • Players (including the opposition), coaches and referees receive free food after their matches.
  • Members receive a 10%-20% discount on drinks on production of their electronic Membership Card.
  • Members benefit from an army of volunteers whose time is given freely to keep the Club running.
  • A warm and welcoming Clubhouse, probably the best in Cardiff and one of the best in Wales.
  • Wages for bar, kitchen and cleaning staff.
  • All utility bills associated with running a Club of this size (Electricity, gas, water rates, Council tax and rates, VAT, etc need to be paid whether we play or not).
  • Capital costs of the Clubhouse from the build, maintenance and upkeep.
  • Hire of Clubhouse and Facilities at preferential rates.
  • Large screen Sky TV’s.
  • Two great pitches, training areas with one under floodlights, as well as playing and training equipment.
  • Pitch maintenance including seed, fertiliser and a tractor and mower diesel.
  • Fantastic volunteer ground staff.
  • Playing kit regularly renewed, washed and ready on match day.
  • Two (occasionally three) Senior sides, a Youth team, a Vets team and mini / junior rugby from under 6 through to Under 16.
  • WRU compulsory player registration.
  • First Aid kits for all our teams.
  • A Club Shop where you can purchase all your rugby kit at reduced prices.
  • End of season presentation awards and trophies.
  • A thriving social scene, lifelong friendships and the opportunity to network.
  • Access to International Tickets.

Did You Know?

  • We are 135 years old this year (2021).
    • Check out the Captain’s Boards to see the numbers who gave all they could to put us where we are today.  That will not change with your buy-in.
  • In the last three trading years (pre-pandemic) heat, light, power, wages, insurance, pitch upkeep, building maintenance, beer and food purchases, coaching and physio cost in excess of £110,000 per year.
    • That’s £9,000 a month whether we play rugby or not.
    • Look at this in another way:  £110,000 is the equivalent of four members earning circa £35,000 per year each and giving all of that (after tax and NI) to the Club to pay our bills.  That is the scale of the challenge we face.
    • Your recent fundraise resulted in a brilliant £3,500 towards our roof repairs.  However, the full cost of the repairs exceeds £9,000.
  • The only way we can meet our overhead costs is from membership fees, sponsorship, WRU grant (£17,000 on average per annum), hire of facilities and beer sales.
    • Being closed for the last 12 months did not mean that the bills disappeared.  However, normal sources of income did.
    • The hard graft from your unpaid Committee meant that we were able to steer the Club financially into safer waters by negotiating grant funding from Welsh Government, Cardiff Council, UK Government and the WRU plus of course the continued support of sponsors and members through their fees.
  • Your support, in terms of membership fees and spending time at the facility will keep us moving forward.
    • We are all Rocks and we all care about staying Rocks.  We cannot do this without you!
    • The Mini and Junior sections are leading the way in paying their membership fees and everyone using the facilities regularly must be a Member.
    • This is a basic principle and we risk losing 135 years of proud history if we fail to deliver this.

Are you up for this?

We are!
